4 Star Electric

4-Star Electric had spent almost 40 years building one of Calgary's most trusted electrical service companies, known for the kind of work that earns repeat business for decades. But their brand hadn't kept up with the business. We modernized the identity, materials, and visual system without losing their long-earned brand recognition and trust.

How we helped:‍ ‍

• Brand positioning
• Brand identity refresh
• Sales + marketing assets
• Website consultation
• Vehicle wraps
• Merchandise

Results:‍ ‍A modernized brand that still feels like 4 Star. The refreshed identity, fleet, uniforms, and visual system gave the team a new confidence in the brand and 4 Star a foundation to attract new talent and step into new markets.

Case study card showing a modernized family-run electrical company brand

For more than 35 years, 4-Star Electric has earned its place as one of Calgary and surrounding areas' most trusted electrical partners. Family-founded, family-led, and known for residential and commercial work, they've cemented their reputation across decades on quality work and professional service.

However, their brand hadn’t evolved in decades.

In a competitive market, they have found immense success. However, their outdated visual identity was holding them back from pursuing the growth they wanted to see. While 4-Star has a strong base of loyal, long-term staff and confidence in their service, they also wanted to attract new, high-quality talent as they expand into new markets. Our goal was to collaborate with a team of strategists and designers to modernize the company’s look and feel while preserving the trust, knowledge, and professionalism they’d built over decades in business.

“4-Star was a very successful company with more than three decades in business. They were experiencing consistent growth and had ambitions for more, and this was a perfect time to hone in on, and show, what makes them unique and special.”

STEP 1

Brand Positioning

This project was about integrating 4-Star’s business development and greater brand strategy with the look and feel of new positioning.

We approached this project as a strategic upgrade. It was critical to make sure 4-Star stands out in the real world in which they operate—on the road, on their job sites, and in the first impressions they make with customers and job candidates.

Honour the legacy. Elevate the expression.

We collaborated with our designers, strategists, and writers to develop a cohesive, engaging brand. 4-Star did not require a complete reinvention—in fact, completely re-designing the brand would have undermined the recognition and reputation they have built. It was important to achieve a balance between preserving their legacy and weaving in future-focused design.

Strategy made visible.

We helped bridge the gap between brand strategy and visual identity by working closely with Fractional CMO Wendy Winder and her team. We wanted to bring the brand positioning and strategy to life by leaning into 4-Star’s strongest values, their legacy story, and the edge they have on their competition.

Future-ready, family-rooted.

We modernized the brand to appeal not only to a younger audience base of up-and-coming homeowners, but also to 4-Star’s next generation of hires. It was important to help 4-Star develop a confident foundation to support their future expansion into new markets and geographical areas.

“Charmaine is wonderful to work with. Her ability to collaborate back and forth as a designer and creative strategist is rare. Her team really cares. They have a desire to make sure the client and their team is super happy, and this makes their approach uniquely generous and present to all factors that go into the creative process.”

STEP 2

Brand Identity Refresh

It was critical that we upgrade this brand and give it fresh energy without losing the magic that 4-Star developed over the decades. Rather than choose an entirely new colour palette, we expanded the existing palette, making it more fun and versatile. We developed a new logo that looks clean, modern, and professional, while paying homage to the original. We ensured that the new logo was applied to all their online assets, including in company email signatures, and social templates.

“Charmaine’s magic is being able to effortlessly merge into a team. She is not territorial over design. As a strategist, I work with a huge variety of personalities, and Charmaine gets along with all of them.”

STEP 3

Vehicle Wraps, Uniforms + Merchandise

We designed new vehicle wraps for 4-Star’s trucks in alignment with their new look, as well as staff clothing and company merchandise. Like many companies in the trades, 4-Star’s visual brand is always at work in myriad ways in the real world. We helped ensure no stone was left unturned in this refresh.

“There is excitement and a strong sense of pride in the 4-Star team since the brand refresh. They’re crushing it, and we’ve given them a strong foundation to move into different markets. They’re ready now.”

RESULTS

The Outcome

4-Star Electric is telling their story the way it was meant to be told.

They came to us as a successful, growing company acknowledging it was high time they modernized at the threshold of more expansion.

We were honoured to be part of the galvanized energy at 4-Star when the refreshed brand was revealed to staff members who have been part of 4-Star for decades—the update felt familiar but improved, which was our ultimate goal.

We are so excited to see where they take this new chapter.
